POS Custom Software
Thomson’s Landscaping
We rebuilt a point-of-sale system from scratch so it would run on new hardware. Cashiers kept the hotkeys they already knew, and it talks to the inventory system we built for Thomson’s years ago.

About Thomson’s Landscaping
Thomson’s Landscaping is a design and build landscape firm founded in the spring of 1979. They serve Ohio and West Virginia, and their staff train through the Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association.
The business challenge
Thomson’s Landscaping has been in the area a long time and was running an older POS system. It had plenty of tools, most of them extras nobody needed, and that made it hard to learn. It had served them well for years, though it lacked some newer functions they wanted for processing sales.
What we did
Their hardware was due for an upgrade soon, so we decided the best move was a new POS program built from scratch for newer machines. Starting fresh let us remap the user experience and shorten navigation, which saves cashiers time on each transaction. New and experienced users both find it friendlier.
What happened
The new POS integrates natively with the inventory management system we built for Thomson’s Landscaping years earlier. By the end, the old POS was so outdated it would not run on their newly purchased hardware; the new one is made for modern machines. We built the core to Thomson’s spec and keep running improvement cycles to refine it and add features. Since deployment, Thomson’s has kept an ongoing maintenance contract with Imagi-tech, so we service the system and make refinements as they come up.
Core features
- A dashboard with simple, direct navigation to each module.
- Only the processes and functions the client asked for.
- Integration with the Inventory Management System so stock deducts correctly.
- The familiar hotkeys and shorthand stayed, so experienced users kept the parts of the process that already worked.
Documented benefits
- Integration into the custom ERP system.
- Their existing process, improved, with room to customize.
- Fewer steps to reach the data and functions staff need, which saves time.
- New sales associates train faster. Modules are clearly labelled, and new and experienced users pick them up quickly.
