About The Betsey Mills Club
The Betsey Mills Club is a historic landmark in Marietta, Ohio, and has helped women, families, and children for over 100 years. It is locally run and locally funded, and it works to stay in touch with what the community needs.
The business challenge
After many years with the same site, the Betsey Mills Club wanted an update. The design was unimpressive, and mobile users found it hard to use. They wanted something modern that still spoke to their community values. They were also very interested in taking payments online so patrons would have an easier time paying them.
What we did
We talked with the Betsey Mills Club about what they wanted from the site and how information should be presented, and which information had to be there. From that we helped them draw up a site map with a tighter, more cohesive user experience. We modernized the visual language and built on a mobile responsive theme so the site works on screens of all sizes. We also planned e-commerce functionality for online payments at standard prices, custom amounts, or donations.
What happened
The old website used a dated visual style left over from smaller screen resolutions. It was static and did not adapt to mobile screens, which made it a pain to navigate. The design was sparse and empty, with nothing to catch the eye or guide a visitor, and there was no way to pay online. The new styling takes its cue from the logo and carries a consistent visual theme. Space is used more deliberately, and the site adapts to different screen sizes, phones included. Visitors can now pay online for classes and memberships.
